Care & Use
Care recommendations
Your watch is comparable to a jewel. Creations of such exquisite craftsmanship require special care to maintain their pristine appearance and precise performance. To prolong its longevity and precious beauty, Montblanc highly recommends regular servicing, which allows you to keep your watch in perfect condition and working properly for a lifetime. Just as a car requires regular maintenance, every watch also needs consistent care. Your watch requires maintenance every three to five years, depending on the mechanical features of the watch.
If you have not worn your automatic or manually wound watch for a prolonged period of time, wind it fully by turning the crown twenty times. Further details are specified in the respective Service Guide.
In order to ensure the performance of your manually wound mechanical watch, we advise you to wind the crown once a day, preferably at the same time. Be careful not to force the crown once you feel resistance.
Do not change the hour or date between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., the period during which the date changes, as this may result in damage to the movement. Please refer to the service guide for further details.
Do not expose your watch to temperatures higher than 60° Celsius (140° Fahrenheit) or lower than –10° Celsius (14° Fahrenheit). As your body and clothing will warm up the watch, its actual temperature will be different to the ambient temperature of your environment.
In case of a shock to the watch, consult a Montblanc boutique or certified Montblanc retailer. Even if no scratches or dents are visible, the movement may be damaged.
Do not wear other jewellery on the same wrist as your watch in order to preserve the integrity of the material. To preserve the pristine condition of your alligator, calfskin, satin or rubber strap, avoid contact with humidity, salty water, soap and cosmetic products. Do not treat your strap with wax, leather or shoe polish, as chemicals may damage the leather, lining or stitching. This may cause the strap to lose its original shine. Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight to prevent the colour from fading. Please note that strong perspiration may darken the leather. Diamonds, set on a bezel or crown, must be handled with care to maintain the lifetime of their brilliance. Avoid contact with chemical products such as fragrances and detergents, as these substances will tarnish precious stones. If your watch has been exposed to such products, clean it with lukewarm water and a soft toothbrush. Use a soft cloth to dry it or let it dry naturally. Never expose it to a direct heat source. Additionally, please be sure to check the stones regularly to ensure they are still securely set.
Storage of your Montblanc watch
We recommend to keep your Montblanc watch in the box in which it was received. When travelling, we advise you to keep your Montblanc watch in a specially designed travel pouch to protect it against shocks and damages.
Rewinding an automatic watch
If your watch has an automatic movement, the movement is automatically wound by movements of the arm while you are wearing the watch.
If you have not worn your automatic or manually wound watch for a prolonged period of time, wind it fully by turning the crown twenty times. Further details are specified in the Service Guide.
In order to ensure the performance of your manually wound mechanical watch, we advise you to wind the crown once a day, preferably at the same time. Be careful not to force the crown once you feel resistance.
Do not change the hour or date between 10 pm and 2 am, the period during which the date changes, as this may result in damage to the movement. Please refer to the Service Guide for further details.

DOCUMENT-PROOF REFILLS AND INK
Some of Montblanc refills and inks are document-proof which means that their colour does not change even after a long period of time. The ink used in these refills and inks is a high quality iso-certified (14145-2) permanent ink that is resistant against bleaching, water and light.
If you use permanent ink, depending on the paper, it may take a little longer until the writing is dried completely. We recommend to clean the fountain pen more frequently (every 2 to 3 weeks). Ideally, the fountain pen should be used several times a week and rinsed after use.
If this time is significantly exceeded, it may be that pigments have permanently settled in the feeder and can no longer be removed by normal rinsing. In that case, a thorough inspection of the fountain pen at the Service Centre would be necessary.
The permanent inks and refills are: Permanent Black ink, Permanent Blue ink as well as ballpoint pen refills in Mystery Black, Royal Blue, Modena Red and Irish Green.
