The Montblanc 1858 product line is inspired by the legendary professional Minerva watches from the 1920s and 1930s which were conceived for military use and exploration. Reinterpreting these historical timepieces, the Montblanc 1858 product line expresses the spirit of mountain exploration, embodying the modern trend of returning to nature.
For this year’s SIAR, Montblanc is unveiling the Montblanc 1858 Split Second Chronograph Limited Edition 100, which combines a 44-mm black DLC case with a black obsidian dial and contrasting yellow touches for a better readability
The 44 mm case is made of deep black titanium that is achieved using a Diamond-like-Carbon (DLC) treatment whose colour is described as “Black 4”, which stands for “very black”- as black as it gets. Minuscule glass spherules are blasted under high pressure to give the metal a microscopic texture to which the DLC coating can almost inseparably adhere, thus producing a fine matte finish on the surface. The case back reveals the Manufacture monopusher chronograph calibre MB M16.31 taking its inspiration from the original Minerva calibres 19-09CH from 1909 and the evolution, the 17-29, developed in the 1930s, that were used for both pocket watches and wristwatches.
The timepiece is completed with a black alligator leather strap that has been finished with beige stitching.
